I'm a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and engage in their version of medieval combat. It's somewhere between a martial art and a sport. We wear armor and can use rattan (it's a plant like solid bamboo) swords, maces, and polearms. There are even modified arrows that our combat archers shoot into melee. I haven't been doing this long (4 months, maybe?), but it has given me a few insights on things like wearing armor and going into combat, FRPG-style.

Wearing Armor
